THREE BEERS WERE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO REMEMBER NOTHING

It’s about half past nine, the streets are deserted, and the wind blows slowly.  Disinterested. Like a worker who can’t wait to go home when morning comes. It blows away the loose pieces of litter left behind by a careless population, pieces of paper, groundnut wrappers, shopping bags, promotional material, Read more…

"I love women’s football, and although most peop "I love women’s football, and although most people think that women don’t know how to play football, or deserve to be watched, I came to show my support. The turnout was unexpected and I am so glad that so many people have come to support the team, especially on a weekday. I’ve followed Starlets for long, even before we were banned, and in the meantime I was watching Vihiga Queens when they played CAF in Uganda. They played so well even if they were eliminated and finished fourth. Kibera Soccer is my favourite team in the WKPL, because of Maximilla Robi. They weren’t promoted last time round because the league was nullified, but they’ve made it this time round and I’m so glad. I like Vihiga Queens because their ball play is nice, and they’ve won the league so many times, and represented us in CAF. I am excited about the WKPL which starts on 7th October and that we’ll have a high school team, Madira Soccer Assasins in the Premier League, and to also watch Valerie Nekesa play."

"Nilikuja leo to watch my first international game "Nilikuja leo to watch my first international game, niget experience ya vile madame wetu wanacheza, because niko kwa the women’s space. Nilitaka kuona watachezaje home, because walilose away, na kama watakua na hunger ya kuonyesha mafans game yao on Kenyan soil. Sjakua kwa game for long, before 2020 sikua nafuatilia ball yetu sana kama EPL. Lakini vile nilienda upcountry, nikaanza kuwa in touch na grassroots football, and nikapata interest in the local leagues, so nimefuata local leagues for three years now. Madira Soccer Assasins, ndio team yangu ya KPL, na naifuata kama fan anataka kujua what is happening in the club, sio tu passively, although pia niko na a soft spot for Gaspo. For new fans, anza na kusupport your local team. Football is more than a sport for me, and nataka kuielewa, especially the science and analysis behind it. As of now sijafanya certifications, although nataka kufanya CAF D, and proceed from there."

"Nikikuja game leo niikua naexpect Harambee Starle "Nikikuja game leo niikua naexpect Harambee Starlets wawin, of which wamefanya kitu positive - Robi (amevaa the yellow striped shirt)

Support itakua much better ivo".

Sijafollow Starlets that much, but Harambee nimekua nikiwafollow for a while. KPL me ni fan wa Tusker na kwa KWPL which inaanza 7th October, me ni fan wa Vihiga Queens. I was never going to make it playing ball. I didn' I was never going to make it playing ball. I didn't have the talent or athleticism for it, but ball gave me something more important. Education.

Through playing a bit of ball, I was educated about the value of showing up everyday, that anyone can improve, not taking things personally and most importantly, friendship. Some of my closest friends are people I met through football. I owe football so much.

Not every child in our teams and academies will make it to the elite level of football, but if we provide opportunities for children to play, we'll be a better society because of it. We'll have young people that are responsible, hardworking and that can work together for a common goal.

The @fkfpremierleague is underway, pick a team and follow its journey. Attend matches and buy a jersey if you can, but most importantly support Kenyan teams that are being run responsibly and that give platforms for young people to express themselves. The @fkfwpl @nsl_ke , DIV 1, II and county and sub county leagues are resuming soon. Support Kenyan, Build Kenyan.

Kenyan Lodgings Are Hostile Environments Sure, th Kenyan Lodgings Are Hostile Environments

Sure, they don't have barbed wire at the entrances, or soldiers with guns at the entrance, but they might as well have them there. You get to a new town on a tight budget, and decide to buy peace and quiet until daybreak. You don't get any of that.

The first thing about Kenyan lodgings is that everyone thinks you're there to meet an equally horny lover. But unless you're 45 and you don't want to explain to your family what the fresh-faced girl with too much perfume is doing in your bed, then most people just want to sleep.

But you can't sleep in Kenyan lodgings, which is frustrating because you paid to sleep. That's the second thing about them, there's always a drunk man in the corridors, upset that he can't find his door number and now everyone has to listen to him, in slow words and motion, complain about services he says he paid for with his hard-earned money.

The third thing is that people probably think you're going to have sweaty sex because your neighbours are having the sex of their lives. It's always the pornstars who refuse to go to soundproofed rooms at Serena who you are bordering on the thin walls. In between worrying about how safe your valuables are, there's the nightlong battle to ignore the couple who sound like they swallowed two pills of viagra each and are loud, proud lovemakers.

In between the slapping and cringeworthy questions, you have to remember that there'll be a loud knock at 9 AM, by housekeeping. You can keep sleeping, but they want the duvet and the sheets. And you really can't sleep much without those. So you step into the shower that has a body count in the thousands and now you're half showering/half avoiding the walls you imagine people have done unspeakable things on.

Kenyan lodgings are hostile environments, you pay for sleep but you get side row seats to people sex tapes, drunk shouting contests, showers the size of a big fridge and receptionists that think you're carrying more Sure condoms than actual luggage.
